Sicily is both the largest region of Italy and the largest island in the Mediterranean and has the been the heart of many great civilizations. The Romans, Greeks, Turks, Syrians, Spanish and French have all left their mark on the island — historically known to be wonderfully rich and fertile but fraught with danger. Alas, it is here in Greek Mythology that Hades stole Persiphone while she innocently picked flowers and whisked her to his kingdom in the underworld.
The Phoenicians, in fact, thought this place was a respite during the original battle between good and evil, and thus held both resting forces, a power so great that when awakened whoever controlled the island could rule the world.
Sicily has harnessed its ancient magic and offers the best in culture, food, and wine. We will visit the hilltop town of Taormina overlooking the stunning eastern seaside, the ancient city of Agrigento home to the Valley of the Temples, and Cefalù chosen as one of the most beautiful villages in Italy.
